Next month AT&T will
reportedly unveil a new "All in One" prepaid brand, representing the
carrier's latest attempt to pull in consumers seeking commitment-free
mobile service. According to Fierce Wireless,
plans for the June launch are still tentative. Should everything remain
on track, All in One's pricing is expected to start at $35 for feature
phones, with the most inexpensive smartphone package costing $50. That
will get you unlimited talk, text, and 2GB of mobile data. Fierce Wireless says that AT&T "may" offer a higher $70 tier that brings with it a larger data cap of 5GB.
If those rates prove accurate,
they'd offer decent savings compared with GoPhone, AT&T's current
prepaid service. As of now, GoPhone customers pay $65 for just 1GB of
data usage each month (with the same unlimited voice calling and SMS).
The $50 price point would also undercut T-Mobile; the uncarrier charges $60 for 2.5GB of data
— though we don't yet know if AT&T will be bundling in hotspot
functionality, which is a nice perk of T-Mobile's latest plans.
To this point, prepaid
offerings from AT&T and Verizon Wireless have looked a bit
lackluster when put up against value plans from competitors like
Straight Talk. But if the All in One rumors pan it, it seems AT&T
may be placing a renewed focus on reeling in customers that want nothing
to do with long-term contracts.
